It can be frustrating to decide which of the hundred interesting and exciting things to work on at any given point in time, especially if you are an entrepreneur with a strong vision.
There are so many ways to get there from here,
Wondering what the best use of your time is right now? It is the thing that will have the most impact. But it is also the one that will get the urgent thing off your mind.
Or it could be the one that will give you that powerful feeling.
Although, it might be the thing that will show love and bring you love in return.
This is definitely another case of setting yourself up for success. If you have taken a little time to create your master list and time blocks based on your values and vision, the decisions may feel and be a little mechanical, but they will get things done and off the list.
To have the most impact on the world with your creativity you need to add another layer to your planning. Incorporate your feelings into your activities. Both how you feel right now and how you want to feel.
You read that right. How do you want to feel at the end of your day? Work on things that help you experience that feeling and you build momentum for finishing other things too. Working on high energy tasks during your high energy times will save you lots of time too.
Most entrepreneurs want to feel productive, in control, and valued. So, we can start with those.
When you are feeling overwhelmed it might be nice to feel in control. Pick any little thing that you can control and do that. Carry that feeling into the next activity and soon you will be in control of several things and they will be crossed off your list. Now you also feel productive.
Always work on at least one thing everyday that will bring in the money. It can be as simple as making a phone call, or 15. When the money is coming in you feel valued and that leads to motivation.
Does it move a major goal forward? Working on activities that move a project along to completion is the best way to feel productive. Leveraging something from another project to achieve the goal saves time and lets you feel like you are building something.
You can’t do it all at once but you can make sure you work on each area regularly. For creative types it isn’t an all or nothing way of working that will bring long-term success. Instead it is an ongoing and constant process of picking the next biggest impact item to focus on while regularly working on the things that have to get done.
This will take some practice but it is worth it to feel perfectly productive and in control and valued even on a low energy day.
I’d love to hear what your biggest impact focus is and how you want to feel today.
